Take Your Pooch to Work!

The DogSmith National Dog Training and Pet Care Franchise wants your job to go to the dogs during National “Take Your Pet to Work Week” June 21-25, 2010.

Florida, June 5, 2010 – June 21 through 25, 2010 has been designated “National Take Your Pet to Work Week” culminating with “Take Your Dog to Work Day” on Friday, June 25th.   Take Your Dog to Work Day (abbreviated as TYDTWD) was first started in the United States in 1999.  Created by Pet Sitters International (PSI) this day celebrates the great companionship provided by dogs and encourages adoptions from local shelters, rescue groups and humane societies.

TYDTWD provides an opportunity for employees to have some summer fun and introduce their four-legged "best friend" to co-workers.  It is also an opportunity to encourage families without pets to adopt their own “best friend” when they see how enriching life can be with a furry family member. Celebrating the great companions dogs make and promoting pet adoptions is even more relevant in 2010 with shelters overcrowded because of the economy.  Pet Sitters International anticipates that participation in TYDTWD this year will reach an all-time high.

However, you shouldn’t just grab the leash and drag Fido off to the office.  Niki Tudge, the  founder of The DogSmith Dog Training Franchise,  recommends that you prepare yourself and your dog for work once you’ve convinced your boss to join the over 5,000 businesses nationwide who will participate in TYDTWD.  For starters you will need to make sure your pet is ready for the rigors and daily grind of a workday.  At a minimum, your dog should be well socialized and housetrained.  It is also a good idea to crate train your dog so he/she will have a safe, quiet place to escape the pressures of the office while you are in that “endless” budget meeting.  According to Master DogSmith, Niki Tudge, “If your dog is not crate trained be prepared with a backup plan to either take your furry friend home if he/she appears uncomfortable or arrange to have a certified Pet Sitter/Dog Walker come to your place of work to give your dog some fresh air and exercise at regular intervals.”
