Isn’t it amazing how we expect puppies to arrive in our home fully trained and perfectly fluent in the English language? And then we are amazed when our new dog doesn’t understand the simplest instructions we give them. Like a tourist in a foreign country, we think that if we just talk louder and slower somehow our new puppy will miraculously understand what we want it to do. But in our modern world, the ability to communicate with and understand man’s best friend is as fundamental as driving, using the Internet and doing taxes every April.
Here at The DogSmith we recognize that getting a puppy can be exciting and frustrating. Puppies are delightful, cute, funny and highly entertaining. Unfortunately, they do not come with an owner’s manual. We are changing all of that.
- The DogSmith has developed Puppy Training Programs that provide you with everything you need to train your puppy from ‘cute and cuddly’, through the ‘terrible twos’, all the way to ‘best friend’.
- The Puppy Training Programs are designed for puppies from 7 weeks to 6 months of age and establish the foundation for the puppy’s entire life.
SOCIALIZATION & EARLY DEVELOPMENT ARE CRITICAL TO LONG-TERM HEALTH & HAPPINESS.
The ‘Puppy Pack’ Puppy Training Goals include house-training, crate training, bite inhibition (puppy nipping), doggie social skills with people and dogs, and some key puppy manners skills like, ‘Sit’, ‘Down’, ‘Stand’, ‘Come’, ‘Walk nicely’, ‘let’s go’, ‘leave it’, ‘name recognition’ and ‘stay’ behaviors.
Talk to your local DogSmith about the best way to approach your Puppy Training. You may prefer a Training Retreat program, taking advantage of a DogSmiths skill while you are on vacation. Or day training is helpful if you need a trainer to pop into your home to support a house-training schedule. Puppy training can take any shape and your DogSmith will work with you to create the program that meets your availability and schedule with our skills and knowledge.
How does DogSmith’s Drop-In class work?
Unlike other group classes, DogSmith Drop-In classes are designed to fit your busy schedule. Instead of you having to alter your schedule to fit a rigid program schedule, with your DogSmith Drop-In classes you simply subscribe to the Drop-In program that suits you best then drop-in to the classes that are most convenient for you.At each class you will work with your DogSmith on the skills and at the skill level appropriate for you and your dog. Your DogSmith will track your progress so there is no wasted time getting back up to speed between sessions. You will simply pickup where your last session + homework left off. This allows you and your pet to progress at a rate that assures your success.
